Week 10

Greetings friends and fam!

This week was another good one. A long one too. It feels like forever ago since the last time I wrote. General Conference was awesome!! I hope you all were able to watch and learn from it.

So my week:

Last Sunday we had an activity as a zone. All of the missionaries in Sullana met in the central park to proselytize in one area and talk to a ton of people. We had two or three big boxes of Book of Mormons and gospel pamphlets and a huge whiteboard with common questions that people may ask about Mormons or religion in general. The best part was that we made two giant box costumes of the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Elder Newman and Elder Ariolla wore them and followed us through the park as we talked to people. It was the funniest thing ever. I think they helped catch people’s attention. Overall, I think the activity was super fun and successful too. I believe we gave out every single Book of Mormon and talked to a ton of people. It was a good time.

On Tuesday Elder Bayona and I went into Piura to the mission home for my 4 week training. I was able to see all the missionaries from my MTC group again which was awesome. It was especially good to see Elder Kirkland. He’s become one of my best friends out here in the mission. He’s the man. Anyways, we basically had a review of the things we talked about the first day we came into the mission. We also talked to President Rasmussen about how our training is going. After that we got to eat the food again from the cook in the mission home. She made us tacos and it was soooo good. Apparently the Elders in the office get to eat at the mission home all the time. They’re super lucky. Dang.

On Wednesday we taught another lesson to Sonya and Lander. We taught them the Plan of Salvation and it went really well. They were just as receptive as before. It was really cool to see them get excited when we taught them the concepts that they didn’t know before like the pre-mortal life or degrees of glory of heaven. I hope they can continue to progress and learn more.

This weekend we had General Conference!! Man, it was great. I don’t think I have ever been as excited to watch Conference as I was before Saturday. They had the Spanish translation in the main chapel of the stake center for everyone, but all of us gringos got to watch in English in the secretary’s office. It was the best because it was only us seven missionaries in there so everyone brought a ton of snacks and food and we just chilled in there and listened to the words of the prophets. It wasn’t anything like watching at home with my family, but it was definitely a good time.

I’m so grateful for General Conference. I learned so much and feel so spiritually uplifted. So many times during the talks of the apostles I felt an overwhelming feeling of the Spirit telling me that these men are called of God. What an amazing opportunity we have to hear them reveal the words and will of the Lord to us every six months. It’s just amazing. I testify that those men are indeed prophets and apostles of the Lord, and that His gospel is again here on the earth. I feel like I can relate to the prophets in the Book of Mormon when I say that when I think of these things my entire soul is filled with joy. The gospel is true!

Overall I had a great week. I hope you are doing well! Talk to you next week.

The End of an Adventure

Well, it has been a crazy, and heart-wrenching week. I am honestly without words. I never expected there to be more tears in returning ...
