Week 25: Más Bautismos

Hello Everyone!

I hope all is well and that you all had a great week. We had a pretty long, but good week here in Sullana. Lots of walkin and talkin in the hot sun. You really can’t escape the heat out here! I hope you are all enjoying your cold weather back in Utah right now. I really miss it, lol. Everything was worth it though, as we had 3 baptisms this week! Once again, not everything went according to plan, but hey, we had 3 baptisms! :)

On Tuesday, we started teaching a man named Larri. He is a reference from a member and he attended church the week before. Larri is super cool, humble, and he expressed his desires to us to follow the will of God in his life. We shared with him the message of the Restoration, and really focused on the fact that God is our loving Heavenly Father. We shared with him how God has loved us enough to once again bring back his true church and this time in fullness. Larri had a ton of questions, and was really interested in the quorum of the 12 apostles that we have today. As we were sitting there teaching Larri, I saw so much potential in him, I knew that if he continues to look for answers about the church and continue to progress, he will find that these things are true. I really feel like if he gets baptized, he could be a great leader and example in this ward. We will see what happens with him.

On Wednesday we were knocking doors after lunch when we found Norma and her little 10 year old daughter Ariana. When we knocked on their door, little Ariana opened the door and was super excited. She immediately yelled to her mom, “The Mormons are here!” She then said something that really hit me hard. She said “I always see you guys walking by here but you have never knocked on my door.” It made me realize how many people I have passed by without stopping to share what message we have. Obviously we can’t knock on every door, but as missionaries we have to be cautious on how we use our time, and never pass up on any moment to preach the gospel. We never know who has been waiting to hear the message of the restored gospel. In this moment it was little Ariana and her mom that were waiting on us. They gladly accepted everything we taught, and I’m excited to teach them again. One thing that I thought was super funny was that Ariana seriously could not figure out why I had white skin and blue eyes. She kept asking her mom things like “Why does he look like that??” “Why is he so different?” “Why is his hair so white?” Sometimes I forget how much I stick out around here, lol.

On Saturday we had baptisms! We baptized a lady named Mirna, and her 12 year old daughter Bianca, and also another young 12 year old that we have been teaching named Aaron. Aaron in particular, was a special baptism for me. This kid is so awesome. He is one of my best buddies ever. He is really shy but has such a strong spirit, and a desire to follow Christ. I have really bonded with him and it was so special for me to be able to baptize him. I see a lot of potential in him and I can see him being a great leader and member of the church. I’m super happy for him.

I also baptized Bianca… 4 times haha. The first time I went to baptize her, she forgot to plug her nose, so when I put her under the water she took in some water and panicked. She flailed all over the place and splashed all the members sitting on the first few benches of the room. I don’t think they realized they were in the splash-zone. She freaked out after that and ran out of the font. She didn’t completely submerse, so we gad to convince her to come back and try it again. After 3 more tries, we finally submersed her. It wasn’t the prettiest baptism or baptismal service, but hey we baptized 3 people. Any day you baptize three souls into the church of Christ it is a good day. :) Baptisms are always special.

Well that was my quick week! I’m sorry I’m not the best at writing and reporting these things that happen. I feel like Moroni in my weakness of writing. Maybe one day I’ll write as good of letters as my brother did on his mission haha. I love and miss you all and hope you have a good week! :) If you ever need anything or have a question for me feel free to shoot me an email! I’ll try to respond as fast as I can.:)

Hasta Luego,

Elder Bailey
